25th November boat recovery day

the towhook on the van was fitted and now to go get Mutley103.
everything was packed on the van just incase we had to modify or beef up anything trailer wise.
the boat looked lonely on the beach on its own but seemed to have done ok .

it was a nice sunny day which was good because it had been a very wet and windy spell, and storm Dianne was on its way the following wednesday.
first task was get the trailer up the slope and then the boat. sophie and kathleen helped.
then it was a case of getting the trailer adjested for the width of the spitfire. this was touch and go as it was meant for a dart18. it fitted on eventually
with 2 new ratchet straps fitted and a few ropes mutley was secure. the mast was huge and extended above the van a far way. i was worried about the supprt bar and adjusted the height of it with and angle grinder and my generator i brought.
strapped on well just incase it came out the cup. we eventually set on our way.
took 2 hours about which was good going tbh.
the trip home was steady and the boat towed ok
when i got home the mast had come out the cup and was resting on the van roof.
luckily it was strapped on well. some mods for the return trip will be needed.
at home a new tramp cover was put on and the old cover taken off.

all loaded to go

at home for winter

Spitfire 103 Arrives

spitfire 103 arrived at Tresaith sailing club with Richard brookes around 5am from Millbrook Plymouth.
i arrived at 0730am and found rich asleep in his newly acquired car

we unloaded and got the boat on the beach.
at the same time i was de rigging ERL with the help of Frazier.
It didnt take Rich to long to rig the boat and get the mast up,
we then had a play with setting the spinaker so i knew what to do .
with that all the rest of the kit was placed away so that i could go on a Trasaith rib raid to cardigan.
when we eventually got back i packed the spitfire away and strapped down ERL
for the trip back home with Gareth .
the boat is now for sale  but now selling very fast at all.

1st race at TMSC

Arrived early to park up
Tipped boat over to sort mast upper rigging as it was all tight ,found the proble being the shackles were in the wrong position, so loosen the bridle and sorted. Did a few other jobs then helped Lizw with her boat. A few other turned up in the club so have plenty of names to try to remember now
Got the boat onto the shore line and was apprehensive about launching launched ok in the end into. A slight on shore wave action I only had the main up so the fist tack was slow , the waves didn’t help as boat speed was slow ,
I missed the start by being on the wrong side of the line
I corrected it and then set off to a mark I couldn’t see, eventually I did spot it and rounded it while Pete and Frazier were already back on the beat .
Downwind was better and with the tide  rounded the bottom gate to struggle upwind to make the line
One lap 52 min the others on f18s did 2. After getting back ashore we cleared up to then go fir a pint in the ship inn home by 2030 a long day but well worth it
Problems were mainsheet came undone at block
Mainsail badly worn on luff
Watch didn’t work
Go pro not charged enough. Both of them
Radio not charged
No tools to do anything
Will get sorted one day

Pics to follow
first race track at Tresaith (INCLUDES SAIL OUT AND RETURN)

first sail of the season ....not !!

set off early to park up at the club, got there in good time to see the sea mist gradually clear.
Gareth arrived and helped get the mast up and was nice and easy. then i set about changing the maainsheet rope that dangles all the way along the m4
had to go to the local gift shop to ask if they hada screwdriver which they did
sometime later i went back thanked the girl annd bought a nice caramel icecream as well
sat on the beach in the sun and wished i was on the sea not looikng at it

other ropes were replace like trapeze lines and also the mainsheet adjuster which runs under the boat.
time flew by next minute i knew it was gone 2 so set off back home.
not a wasted trip.after all.

Boat move to Tresaith

on the 22nd April Gareth Thomas came over and towed the boat to the club as my new van doesn't have a tow bar. it was pouring with rain and when we got to the club it started to brighten up.
undoing the boat didnt take to long, it was washed down and put in a berth and tied down
a walk along the beach to take photos and then head home , hopefully will be able to put mast up soon and then go for a sail. pics to follow soon.

ps i did wash the boat after the photos were taken

2018

all change for 2018.
due to a foot injury problem and being off work for 6 months and no sailing i left my job. with other family bereavments we have decided to up sticks and move to  Aberystwyth . and sail at Tresaith mariners sailing club.
the move is underway but long and drawn out as we are moving our kit in my own van.
March 12th to 17th hopefully ERL will be moved all the way from Swanage to either new home or the club.
pictures to follow.
