end of season

well not a very good season really, blame work, and lack of motivation on my part.
i have still not sailed mutley197 yet which is really bad, and having only competed in 3 races and only 2 pleasure sails since 24th August on MBM
at least i did the bournmouth race which was really good with john russ.
i am pleased with MBM and look forward to a more structured season in 2012, however work will still be playing a major hinderance. at the moment i am between jobs  but knowing the job  i am going for is going to be a pain towards sailing.
more updates as it unfolds.

Autumn series 16102011

wind was light as expected. we were looking forward to the 2nd race of the series for us and got ourselves on the line very well. we did however mess the first tack when we touched tommy tipper.  we did our 360 penalty and then caught the rest of the fleet by the next lap only to lose it all on a very bad call by richard who decided to follow what nick was doing. fair play we wanted to do something different  but in this case it didnt work.
the wind was about 8-10knts too light to keep out of the way of the lasers, they did hamper us a fair bit at the start. pleased overall but more work needed on tacking and getting boat back to speed .

Saturday fun sail with Richard 15102011

wind was about 10knts, we decided to launch early to capture the little wind that was going to be around this weekend. so 10am we set sail and followed the coast and out to ballard, admiring the shoreline  the weather was sunny. it was a good sail and very relaxing. richard tried out the trapeze for the first time on this boat ready for tomorrows exciting series race.
sailed about 8miles + just over the hour.

24TH SEPT

it was nice and peacefull at 830am and the decided to go out on MBM solo, the wind was light about 5-7 knots

sailed around for about an hour having a few good blasts here and there. no crew for the weekend racing so decided to go home.

Bournmouth race 3rd Sept 2011 cont......

the weather was overcast and predicted 12-17 knts sw
crew was John Russ, john has always been my fav crew for this race and was pleased for him to be back again.
we headed out to the start and a few tacks and gybes later we were underway, i was below the line and took it steady to start. there was 8 other cats in the race 7 being dart 18's and one lone 15
we headed out of the bay and then toward old harry then heading for poole bar bouy green no 1
we actaully went to the next one down as it suited our tactics. then out to sea again and then gybing back  in until we could see the mark off Bournmouth pier. We rounded the mark in 5th spot  with pete (gregs old boat) mark and desney and straycat and the d15 behind us. we were pleased however at bournmouth on the beat we struggled to make the baot go and pete and mark bothe overtook and left us.
the waves were bouncing us and comming across the bows  our mistake according to mike was we were sat too far forward. john was in front of the shrouds.

after afew more tacks we rounded bb1 again and headed toward old harry GREG overtook us on straycat.
we then encountered severe chop off old harry and we headed in toward the cliffs, we did this several times untill we were in the bay. we finally finished in about 2h 20  but the weather didnt help
so after getting the boat back in its berth it was off for a a pint and debrief from greg and mike m
they all said we ddid really well down wind  but what was up with my upwind sailing ?
something to work on.
it was all filmed as well on my pov 1.5 to treasure the day.
next day was forcast strong winds, in the morning the bay was shrouded in a rain cloud. i tied the boat down and headed home. too much for one weekend, and as it was only my secound sail of the year i guess i couldnt complain.
the boat did fantastic and performed to my expectations. i think Paul let go a good boat
looking forward to next week and see how MBM does, providing the helm can match up to what its capable off . no gps tracker of the race as it didnt work after i put it into my jacket ??

 rigged and ready MBM

Spud ready

 Graham and Wendy #7342

autumn series 1 28082011

work started at 0730 to get MBM ready, replaced the trapeze bungy and gave him a good wash.
the wind was getting up and i was getting edgy, having not raced this year this was going to be a baptism.
we headed out to the start and tried a few tacks and gybes and founf the main slipped a few times.
we headed out to mark 1 and found starboard side was key
we went back to the committee boat only to find the race had started, we were 2mins late starting (oh well)
we went left and then tacked and found we were beating higher than the rest. we gained some ground.
on the next lap we made huge gains and by mark 4 we were with the fleet.
clive stracey was doing really well and not far behind us.

the wind was picking up and the waves as well, richard was calling the shots for tacking and gybing and did a good job.
we lost a little ground when it got windier  because i wasnt up to speed in stronger winds.
the last lap we loooked behind and to our amazement was STRAYCAT  we came off 4 and powered up not wanting greg to beat us. we did finnish ahead by 10 secs but greg seemed to think he had another lap to do, we let him  carry on when we seen all the cats heading for shore.
overall MBM is a good boat and im very pleased with him.
we were using a tight rig and had the mast raked back and the shroud plates were on the 2nd hole up from the deck. as for batten tension  i didnt even check it, also i raced with the older jib
after tucking MBM in his berth i was asked by fellow sailors how i did.
i was happy to say  i think i did ok and pleased with the boat.

next saturday is the Bournmouth race, hopefully the weather will be ok John Russ will be crewing.

24th August 2011 taking MBM to Swanage

today me and richard went to starcross to pick up M.B.M #7424
after finally strapping the boat down in the pouring rain we said our goodbyes to Paul and headed off back to swanage.
we finally arrived at 1520 and then preceeded to to unload him and weave it thru all the boats in the boatpark onto the beach.

with the help of Mike Chem and Phil Palmer and Richard we rigged MBM quickly.
MBM was put in its berth , we then set about getting the box off the road trailer and use that as the kit box on the beach, after a bit of persuasion the bolts finally gave up. around 7pm we finally finnished and went for a curry and welcome pint.
 MBM at Starcross
 unloading MBM
the mast pole had to be extended so that the mast would clear the back of the van.
this method was used when getting STRAYCAT as well.
the boat travelled very well and was well tied down thanks to Richard

i look forward to picking it up from the club in the next week or so and testing it out at Swanage  ready for the autumn series. Richard Hart has offered to crew once again. our mission to beat STRAYCAT, my old boat which is still at Swanage.
more to follow.
